Wayne Norman-Technical Manager
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.  I am a freelance Technical Manager and Video Engineer specializing in all forms of Entertainment, Corporate, and Sports Production.

I have worked extensively with Flight Packs, Mobile Units, Studio Applications, and in reality show environments.

My understanding of video systems, data communications, audio, intercom, Microwave (RF), computers, and Fiber Optics Systems is wide-ranging.  I know how to communicate with production personnel in a non technical manner that allows me to convey the right information to the right people so they have a full understanding of the technical process.

Changes do not faze me and I am not afraid to get my hands dirty and pitch in when the team needs help.

Flawless!!
The goal of every production.

You need to focus on the logistical and creative issues of your show, but are also responsible for the technical side to be flawless.  You need someone with the experience and knowledge to bring a level of competency that ensures you excel.

I am a team player and understand the production process can be difficult.  You have to solve every problem within the budget and time allotted.  You can delegate any technical burden on me and I will deliver the results you demand, efficiently and with no fuss.

As a Technical Manager with exceptional Video Engineering, Camera skills and audio knowledge you can be assured the acquired footage will be delivered as specified to Post.  I am very conscious of the work flow and communicate directly with Post-Production to make sure the picture and recording formats are set to their exacting specifications for seamless integration. I detail everything in written specification sheets and production reports so the show can be technically reproduced in Post or during production meetings.

I devote an enormous amount of due diligence to Audio that gives Post the options necessary to deliver exceptional quality sound that enhances the viewer's experience.

I understand budgets and can make the most of the equipment you choose.  I know when to speak up and when to shut up.   When you need someone to detail the technical benefits or disadvantages of a particular camera, video component, or audio device I can give you rock solid advice based on experience and research.  If I do not have the answers I will seek them out with vendors and manufacturers so you can speak with technical accuracy.

I work with the rental equipment of your choosing and can drive or assist in the selection of the right components to deliver the production sophistication you seek.  I have extensive experience with microwave systems as well as most brands and models of professional video and Digital Cinema cameras, plus POV and prosumer variations.

Your project will be technically flawless.

Prepared

I arrive at every shoot completely prepared with a plan of attack.  I am diligent and go through each camera and verify the settings and brief all Camera Operators and Sound people on how the production will be executed and what the technical requirements are for Post.

When needed, I provide technical advice and assistance to all of the camera operators, sound people and interested production staff.

I design and build Video Villages that are functional and distribute the needed video, audio, and time code so all of the Producers and Directors see exactly what they need.  I have exceptional experience and knowledge in wireless transmission systems for audio, video, intercom, and control data.

Whether it is a single set up or the production is constantly on the move I incorporate proven techniques that allow the show to relocate quickly and deliver all your monitoring and technical needs.

Special Skills

In addition to my Technical Management skills, I am also a Video Engineer and Controller so I can paint the cameras so they at least start at the same settings.

I have strong computer and network skills so I can provide production with support and can help build the computer network and trouble shoot issues as they develop.

I am also a fully qualified Hand-Held Camera Operator and Jimmy Jib Owner Operator with extensive reality show experience.  Please visit my website www.JimmyJibs.com for details on my Camera credits.

To add to my resume, I am also a helicopter pilot and have worked as a Firefighter, having achieved Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (I am not currently certified).

Most importantly I am very adept at coming up with solutions for the near impossible.  I always research my alternatives if a piece of equipment should fail, especially when working out of town.  I establish relations, when possible, with rental houses in the local area of the shoot, as well as determine locations of retail establishments that can provide parts for computer, video, and audio devices, such as cables and adapters.

Video Kit

When shooting in Los Angeles I bring a lot of video and fiber support gear that often comes in handy and can resolve an issue immediately, rather than waiting for the rental house to deliver the missing or added component.

Every production is unique and deserves the attention of a true professional who has the technical skills to make it flawless.
